Green
Real Estate News
Despite a challenging economic outlook,
green building will support 7.9 million U.S. jobs and pump $554
billion into the American economy – including $396 billion in wages –
over the next four years (2009-2013), according to a new study from
the U.S. Green Building Council and Booz Allen Hamilton. The study
also determined that green construction spending currently supports
more than 2 million American jobs and generates more than $100 billion
in gross domestic product and wages.

Government News
As members of the National
Association of Green Agents and Brokers know, there is increasing
pressure on our government to take care of two pressing issues on the
minds of Ontarians – the economy and the environment.
Ontario’s provincial government has proposed a new piece of
legislation that they feel will create jobs, improve the economy and
increase the use of renewable sources for energy production. It is
expected that adoption of this Act will lead to the development of
more than 50,000 “green” collar jobs and generate economic activity in
the billions of dollars over the first three years of implementation.
From an environmental standpoint, it is expected that Ontario will
reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30 mega tonnes of greenhouse
gas emissions.

New
Products
Did you know that traditional, incandescent Christmas lights use approximately 10x more energy than new LED lights? If you are still using incandescent strings of lights, you may want to take advantage of many of the trade-in offers that are available through provincial governments and various hydro authorities. To see if you qualify, please check here (programs subject to change at any time without notice).
