Citizens Bank-Canada
Founded in 1997, Citizens Bank of Canada took a bold step to
become Canada’s first branchless bank. We’ve been setting the pace
ever since by delivering more when it matters most: more value,
more service and more convenience. You also get more in a unique
way. We’re the only Canadian bank with a clear ethical policy on
social and environmental issues. So you can put your money where
your heart is. Citizens Bank supports those in Canada and abroad
who believe in respect and fair treatment, environmental
leadership, healthy lifestyles, ethical business practices, and
peaceful communities.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is part of our DNA. We want
to leave the world better than we found it. And that means we care
about more than just money. When we make decisions, we take all
our stakeholders into account – members, employees, communities
and the environment. Not only are we the only Canadian bank with a
stated Ethical Policy on key social and environmental issues, but
we report on our progress every two years in our
externally-verified Accountability Report. Because we believe so
strongly in defining success beyond the financial bottom line, we
were especially proud to receive the top ranking among the
country's banks for CSR in Report on Business Magazine's 2005
survey. At Citizens Bank, we have committed to neutralize our
carbon dioxide (C0 2) emissions by 2010. C0 2is the most harmful
of the greenhouse gases that cause climate change. Going carbon
neutral means the Bank will take major steps to reduce its
greenhouse gas emissions. What we can’t reduce, we will "offset"
by investing in local energy projects. Each year, businesses pump
out more than 35 per cent of the greenhouse gases that accelerate
climate change. In the service sector, executives’ frequent
business travel bears some of the greatest responsibility for
corporate caused emissions. We’ll be starting with improving the
carbon neutrality of our top executives by examining and, where
necessary, tweaking their transportation choices. The rest of the
Bank will focus on reducing office paper use (we’re already the
first Canadian financial institution to go 100 per cent post
consumer waste), improving energy efficiency, and reducing
emissions from employee transportation and business travel. We are
absolutely committed to doing our part, not only to meet carbon
neutral targets, but to set an example for other organizations.
Citizens Bank derives its stability and ethical grounding from
being owned by Canada's largest credit union, the Vancity group of
companies, with over $10.5 billion in assets.
We're a member of the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation, so
your money's safe, no matter what.

EnerGuide (Canada)
The Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE), Canada's centre of
excellence for energy conservation, energy efficiency and
alternative fuels information, is playing a dynamic leadership
role in helping Canadians save millions of dollars in energy costs
while contributing to a healthier environment. One of the OEE’s
key tasks is managing the Government of Canada's new ecoENERGY
Efficiency Initiative, with its programs to reduce energy use in
buildings and houses, industry, retrofits, personal vehicles and
fleets. Homeowners and owners of small and medium-sized
organizations can also apply for ecoENERGY Retrofit grants and
financial incentives. In addition, the OEE promotes other
energy-efficient transportation choices. The OEE provides practical
energy conservation advice to consumers, school boards, businesses
and institutions, and has links to hundreds of related sites
around the world. With the assistance of the National Advisory
Council on Energy Efficiency, the OEE is also charged with
identifying opportunities for new and heightened energy efficiency
measures. As well, it keeps Canadians abreast of developments in
technology that can conserve fossil fuels or support the
transition to less carbon-intensive energy sources, including
renewable energy. Informing key decision-makers in government,
industry and the environmental and international communities about
Canada's energy conservation and energy efficiency efforts and
successes is a major focus of the OEE. Toward this end, the OEE
publishes an annual report entitled The State of Energy Efficiency
in Canada (available online). The OEE is aggressively pursuing its
vision of "Leading Canadians to Energy Efficiency at Home, at Work
and on the Road" in ways that benefit both the environment and the
economy. For further information, browse our Web site or contact
